In sum, the suggested pragmatic eclecticism does not offer a viable method. It does not seek ethically correct principles, only those that will in fact be accepted and resolve conflicts. It accepts without criticism the values, aims, and desires of people involved in a problem, that is, those who can prevent or influence action. It may not require consistency, and even if it does, has no adequate criterion of relevant similarity. It is conceptually blind to the import of radically different moral premises.

It can also have some possible pitfalls. First, for a couple of reasons, brief practical exposure might not be typical. Those practitioners willing to take on students are not likely to be a representative sample. Among physicians, they are apt to be especially aware of ethical questions and thus treat their patients differently from most physicians. They are apt to be much more sensitive than a physician who saw no difficulty about the capacity of subjects to consent to experimental drug therapy, even though many of them did not know the day of the week or what a fork was for.
