Though I will not critique the works of these scholars here, I use almost all of their theories in some way, and the discussion that follows will not in any way displace the importance of coming to terms with the ideas these authors propose. Justice is defined by our philosophical forebears as giving to each person her or his due. The problem is knowing what each person is due.

In this introductory chapter I will share some of the philosophical and biblical roots of our heritage regarding justice, since the notion of justice is the main moral principle grounding this study. The four chapters that make up the middle section of the book describe how women's access to the economy is compromised by our experiences of sexuality. The concluding chapters will again take up the question of what justice requires of us now, in light of this exploration of women's experience, particularly as we might see it affecting our notions of sexual ethics and economic ethics.
