The process of meiosis creates gametes. Meiosis has two cell divisions rather than one. Yet the DNA splits only once. This means one mother cell ends up making four daughters. The gametes have half the normal number of chromosomes and are not identical to the parent. Meiosis I begins as the cell makes a copy of its DNA. 1. After the baby is born, genetic testing can show if the infant is missing genes. Testing tells if the child has genes that will cause problems doctors would not see otherwise. Detectives can now use DNA to match evidence at crime scenes with the criminals that commit the crimes. DNA can come from any human cell. Hair or even fingernail clippings can lead detectives to criminals.
